From clay to finished bronze

So how do you turn a lump of clay into a work of art?

Sculptor Diana Pattenden takes us through the creation of her beautiful resting cheetah, from clay to finished bronze, in this new film (click on the picture above).
The film begins with a lump of clay, which is sculpted by Diana into a cheetah, fired, painted then fired again into a clay ceramic – the first work of art. A mould is taken for the bronze casting to begin the bronze casting process and the creation of a bronze sculpture. During the film you can see the entire method of lost wax casting at Talos Art Foundry.
The ‘cast’ includes Geoff Moate, who retired last year, and Matt Duke, an animal – and cheetah – sculptor in his own right.
